Almost 200 members of the VASS community including students, families, volunteers and supporters joined us at Grouse Mountain on March 4 for a beautiful day of sunshine, snow and VASS MAGIC!
Activities included a fun ski and snowboard race, sledge hockey, an adaptive snow sport experience zone, apres and a silent auction.
The goal of our race is to be consistent across two runs – and the winners were Samuel Celis in the individual category, and the Blue Parrots in the team category. Moein Ferdosian was the winner of the hotly contested best crash category. Click to see the full list of Individual times and results and Team times and results.
The event raised over $50,000 to support VASS programs that make the mountain experience accessible to all. The winners of the coveted top fundraiser award were Victoria Tai in the individual category, and Piccolo in the team category.
The annual Lorraine McLatchie Award recognises a student who has show outstanding determination, dedication and a positive attitude. This year the Award went to Richie Grimes, whose smile and enthusiasm has warmed the hearts of everyone at VASS.
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors, and in particular our Host Sponsor Grouse Mountain and our Peak Sponsor Vancouver International Airport, as well as all the businesses and individuals who donated items for the silent auction.
To relive the day, take a look at photos from the event in this Flickr album (courtesy of Mark Teasdale) and on the website of North Shore News, our media sponsor. There is also a short video kindly put together by Neil Muncey.
Our fundraising pages are still open so if you would like to make a donation to support VASS, please click here.
We look forward to seeing everyone next year for the 2018 VASS Cup!
