Dear VASS Member
This is a call to ACTION!! We need ALL VASS members rally and support our only major annual event – the VASS Cup on Thurs Mar 8th!
Last year 5 people raised the majority of the funds. Can you imagine EVERYBODY got into ACTION (10 minutes only to forward an email to your family/friends requesting sponsorship)? YOU can make a difference!
We would love to have EVERY VASS MEMBER INVOLVED by attending the event and sending an email to friends requesting sponsorship!
If you are unable to attend the event then we suggest that you ask your friends/family to support your passion for VASS by donating to the event under the Donate Now button at www.vasscup.ca.
The process is easy……..DO THIS NOW ~>
1) Go to www.vasscup.ca and register
2) Send an email to your friends/family by clicking on “Manage your profile” ~> “Send emails” OR send an email to friends in your words and have them go to www.vasscup.ca ~> “Sponsor a Racer/Volunteer” or “DONATE NOW”
See you on March 8th! Thank you for being part of our amazing VASS community!

Hi everyone,
Just a week to go now until the VASS Cup, and things are taking shape nicely for a great day on Grouse Mountain!
Here are a couple of things to remember up front:
1. The day does start early for the “racers”…..we need you to check in at the base at 7.30am or as near as you can, as we really have to have you up on the last tram at 8.15am to keep to the day’s schedule. If you’re not racing, feel free to hang back a while and we’ll see you later….let’s say 8.00am.
2. Once you are at the top of the tram, there will be a pre-race briefing at the Timber Room which is important, as we want to schedule the start so that you get maximum time on the hill skiing, and not too much time waiting to race……you’re always welcome to hang out at the start, but some want to free ski as well.
3. A full day agenda outline is attached at the bottom of the email….
4. Don’t forget, parking is included, so come to registration and pick up your pass. Also if you need rentals, you must email info@vass.ca. We have only one request so far, so we are assuming you all have you own lit organized.
That’s it for now. See you next week!
7:30am – 8:15am Registration for the race (everyone on the 8:15 tram at the latest)

‘Come and try Adaptive Winter Sports camp’ offers an introduction for individuals with a physical disability, to try a variety of adaptive winter sports in a fun and informal setting. Participants will be invited to try out the sports of alpine skiing, sledge hockey and wheelchair curling over a three day camp.
The alpine skiing and sledge hockey will take place at Grouse Mountain, just 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Here participants will get to enjoy 2 days on the mountain learning the basic skills of alpine skiing or snowboarding and having the opportunity to try out sledge hockey on the mountain top ice rink!
The wheelchair curling session will take place at the Vancouver Curling club at the Hill Crest Centre, next to Queen Elizabeth Park. The centre was the Curling venue during the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics.
The aim of the camp is to raise awareness of the opportunities that exist and create a positive introductory experience to some of the winter adaptive sports. The come try sessions will also increase confidence, motivation, independence and skill levels.
Outline of camp agenda:
Friday March 9th Vancouver Curling Club, Hillcrest Centre
3.30 – 5.30pm – Introduction and ‘come try’ wheelchair curling
Saturday March 10th Grouse Mountain
8am – 12pm Alpine skiing/snowboarding lessons
1.30pm – 3pm Sledge hockey ‘come try’ session
Sunday March 11th Grouse Mountain
8am – 12pm Alpine skiing/snowboarding lessons
The alpine ski/snowboard lessons will be delivered by the Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports (VASS) who run skiing and snowboarding programs for persons with a disability at Grouse, Seymour and Cypress Mountains. The sledge hockey demo will be delivered by local athletes and in partnership with BC Hockey and SportAbility. The wheelchair curling session will be delivered by local athletes, the Vancouver Curling club and in partnership with Curl BC. All activities will be led by certified coaches and instructors from the individual sports.
The camp is open to individuals, (age 12 and above) trying out one or all of these sports for the first time.
Cost of the ‘Come and try Adaptive Winter Sports camp’ is $25
(All necessary equipment will be provided.)

SKIMP stands for Skills Improvement. In recognition of the hard work and passion that our volunteers put into their activities at VASS, we offer opportunities throughout the season for our volunteers to improve their skills in many different areas, from improving their own skiing, to working with adaptive equipment, to getting a better understanding of disabilities. These are also opportunities to interact with fellow volunteers from across VASS in both learning and social settings.
The SKIMP sessions are on Grouse, and we ask that people meet outside the VASS hut for a 7:00 p.m. start. They can get their tickets at Guest Services and go up as early as they like. The session goes from 7-9 p.m.
